Baiting the Oscar: The Ninoy/Cory Biopic

It is an unknown fact here in the Philippines that our country is yet to secure an Oscar nomination in any category. Our closest encounter with Oscar was in 2009 when Ploning started to turn some heads towards our awards-cool country but the lack of campaign and buzz ultimately killed its chances. The next year, Philippines epicly bombed when they sent the horror/comedy film Ded na Si Lolo over other worthier films like 100 and In My Life. Then, Philippines made up by sending a solid choice - Noy, a truly Oscar bait film but so-so in quality. This... more

Gearing up for August: Osage County

It’s 102 weeks away from the 2014 Academy Awards and yet I am looking forward to it. That’s because I am anticipating the film adaptation of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play August: Osage County to dominate the Oscars. August joins the list of awards-pedigree stage productions which have/will have been awards magnet films like Doubt, Nine (though it didn’t win a Pulitzer, it won Best Musical at the Tonys and a Leading Actress win too) and War Horse. August: Osage County tells us the story of a troubled Oklahoman family, led by patriarch... more

The Curious Case of the Best Actress

The greatest upset on Oscar Night was the triumph of veteran Meryl Streep over frontrunner Viola Davis. Viola, who played Aibileen Clark in Best Picture nominee, The Help, half-swept the awards season with the BFCA and the SAG wins in her belt. The other half was, of course, snagged by Meryl Streep. Meryl took the Drama Golden Globe and the BAFTA. One can acknowledge that this was the tightest Best Actress race in years. Come the nominations morning, one cannot be all sure who will be the final five. True enough, newbie Rooney Mara bumped Tilda... more

New Story: Until I Die

Apologies for the late update! A lot has happened between the last time I posted in here! First of all, I finally passed my first actuarial exam! Woohoo! It's not much, but it's a first step! The exam's hard, and I thought I wouldn't pass, but everything happened in God's grace. And I am so happy to see my uber favorite actress Meryl Streep contending for another Oscar. 29 years is a long enough wait and I feel that the Academy will finally see the genius in Meryl's performance as the controversial British PM Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.... more

Very Late Miss Universe Post

First of all, congratulations to the lovely Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, for winning the Miss Universe crown. Angolans must be so proud of their countrywoman’s achievement. I must say, I am happy for Angola and the Miss Universe Organization because it’s high time that we have a black Miss Universe and who can be a more fitting one than Leila? Okay, I won’t beat around the bush anymore. Here are my thoughts on the recently concluded Miss Universe pageant: 1. I am happy that Angola won. I am not saying that Leila is the best of the night. No,... more

Cool, eh? Anyway, here are the... more

Beauty Queens, Simmified: Part 2

A few blogposts ago, I attempted to simmify (i.e. onvert to Sims) some Miss Universe titleholders like Oxana Fedorova and Stefania Fernandez. Today, I have successfully simmified other beauty queens: Binibining Pilipinas - Tourism Isabella Manjon and Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova. I have also re-did Oxana since I wasn't satisfied with my first work. Here's Oxana, Isabella and Natalie! Enjoy!
